The project

Context Chapron Lemenager manufactures electric fence energizers, the devices that power electric fences around pastures. The goal: make them connected, so users can monitor and control their fence remotely, without having to travel to it. The work A complete solution, from the electronics to the app: • Design of the embedded electronics and their software (firmware) • Connection over the 3G/4G mobile network, with no internet box or Wi-Fi needed on site • A dedicated communication protocol that exchanges an ultra-low volume of data: 500 MB is enough for 10 years of operation • Remote software updates (FOTA, Firmware Over The Air), with no intervention on the device • Switching the fence on and off remotely • Measurement of the fence voltage and detection of current losses • Geolocation of the device • Simplified activation for the end user: scanning a QR code is all it takes • Mobile app and web interface (Angular) to monitor and control the fences • High-availability cloud platform: Docker micro-services behind a load balancer, so the service stays available even if a server fails • Creation of the industrialization process, to go from prototype to mass production Outcome An industrialized connected energizer: users activate it by scanning a QR code, then monitor and control their fence from their phone.
